Budaya organisasi merupakan topik yang banyak diperbincangkan dan diteliti sejak awal tahun 1980-an. Hofsedemengamati bahwa istilah 'organizational cultures' masuk ke literature akademis di Amerika pada artikel 'On Studying Cultures' dalam Administrative Science Quarterly oleh Pettigrew tahun 1979. Blake dan Mouton membahasnya dengan istilah 'climate'. Kemudian istilah 'corporate culture' digunakan oleh Silverweig dan Allen. 'Corporate Culture' menjadi terkenal ketika Deal dan Kennedy (1982) menulis buku dengan judul tersebut.References
